Canvas

Unlike Blackboard, Canvas does not need an external plugin to provide instructor level SSO functionality.

Generating Instructor Credentials

To create the instructor SSO credentials follow the steps below. These credentials are setup at an Instructor level so the person needing access will need to follow these steps. A System Administrator should not be needed to complete this process.

  1. Log into Canvas
  2. Click "Settings"
  3. Under "Approved Integration" click "New Access Token"
  4. Give the token a name (such as "MNV Gateway Integration") and click Generate Token.

The token should then be saved by the Instructor. This token will need to be sent to the Gateway when the Instructor invokes a pull Courses, pull Roster, or push grades. It is possible for the Tool Provider to store these tokens, however since the instructor can reset it at any time the Tool Provider should account for this.
